Imagine being whisked away on an unexpected journey to some of the world's most electrifying locations, with little more than a vague promise of beaches, beer, and relaxation. That's exactly what happened when Shawn led us on a spontaneous adventure to Honduras, a land notorious for its perilous airports and vibrant yet unpredictable landscapes. From the thrilling landings at Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula to navigating jungle roads in makeshift vans, our escapades were anything but ordinary. And, yes, there's a quirky reminder about the hazards of barefoot excursions in airplane lavatories that you won't want to miss.

Our trip takes a dramatic turn when a seemingly innocent dinner invitation plunges us into an uncomfortable encounter with a family of mystery and suspicion. As we piece together the puzzle of a lavish restaurant against the gritty backdrop of San Pedro Sula, the tension mounts, and we find ourselves entangled in a situation straight out of a thriller. Reflecting on the fine line between adventure and risk, we recount how we strategized our escape from a potentially dangerous predicament, while maintaining our ever-present sense of humor and curiosity.

From the heart-pounding experiences in Central America, our journey shifts to the lively streets of Munich during Oktoberfest. Celebrating the camaraderie and culture of beer, brats, and Bavarian traditions, we invite you to share in the joy of travel and the evolution of our travel skills. As we reminisce about iconic landmarks and must-visit spots, we emphasize the timeless importance of kindness and empathy. Join us in exploring the world one adventure at a time, and don't forget to share your own travel stories and photos from around the globe.

Welcome everyone. This is Cabin Pressure. We have a couple big shout-outs today Before we get started. Sean, we have a couple big shout outs today Before we get started, sean.

We are just approached today 600 downloads today on our podcast and it's been just over two weeks. So we really appreciate everybody that's downloading our podcast and following.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we really do. And don't forget, folks send those pics in too, of the destinations. We want to see the pictures of your family, your friends, the crews, anyone that is staying at these destinations. We want to post them on our site. But again, we do appreciate all the emails, greatly appreciate those from everyone taking the time to do that. We also have a huge shout out to all the women that responded to the rip from the Yellowstone series of the last podcast. They really loved that. Don't forget, the final season starts November 10th. Yep, yeah, I can't tell you, though, how bummed I am. So, mr Costner, if you are listening, reconsider, reconsider, reconsider. We'd love to continue to watch Yellowstone and if you have not started watching Yellowstone, start from the beginning.

Speaker 2:

Yes, because I'm telling you you do not want to miss it. It is a great series.

Speaker 1:

It's a great exciting man's man show.

Speaker 2:

It is, and again we do appreciate everyone. Folks with the emails, keep sending them and we'll keep doing what we're doing. So, hey, sean, do you ever notice people we were talking about this the other day do you ever notice people that walk into the lavatory bare feet?

Speaker 1:

Oh man, that is disgusting.

Speaker 2:

Nasty, it really is nasty, and these people when they walk in there, folks, when you walk into that lavatory, if you're standing or you're sitting down and you're bare feet in a lavatory and you're thinking to yourself man, my feet are really wet.

Speaker 1:

That is not water.

Speaker 2:

Nope, that is not water, that is straight out nasty, nasty People.

Speaker 1:

you have to remember this is a public bathroom. I mean, parents, please watch your kids. Well, everybody, anybody. Don't walk into a public restroom in your bare feet or socks.

Speaker 2:

No, because you're transferring all that funk to the carpet, to your shoes, to your socks.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's a whole other dimension of athlete feet.

Speaker 2:

That's just straight nasty. It's airline feet, exactly, and you're going to get some nasty looks from your crew too. Yeah, nasty.

Speaker 1:

Nasty nasty.

Speaker 2:

Definitely. Anyway, now, when we were younger, we used to do a lot of crazy shit, didn't we?

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, we did some crazy shit. We have lots of stories.

Speaker 2:

Do you remember one time you walked in? We had some days off and you were like hey pack. Yep you said we're going south. I'm like where are we going?

Speaker 1:

I said, hey, let's just, let's just get out of here. We need to unwind for a little while.

Speaker 2:

We used to do stuff like that all the time and I said, okay, so we're going south, we pack and warm right, yep, where are we going? Heading to a beach, and he would not tell me. He said I'm not going to tell you until we get there. So I was like, okay, beach, no problem. I'm thinking clear, crystal clear, blue water.

Speaker 1:

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Speaker 2:

Coral reef. Oh yeah, snorkeling, yeah, senoritas. Women everywhere and beer, and you know beer, beer. You know we need cheap beer. Yeah, exactly because we didn't have much money.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I mean, I know the story where we're going here right now and we left with like, I had $200 in my pocket, gary had about 200 bucks Yep and going on vacation today. That's not going to get you to many places, but back in the day, we get places. You can get places, especially when you get outside the United States.

Speaker 2:

Exactly. So we were going south and I was like, okay, we're going to a beach, that's cool. So we pack up and we head to the airport and back then, sean, whenever we traveled, we did not need to make a reservation, did we?

Speaker 1:

No, you didn't need a reservation because the planes were empty. You can get on any flight you wanted to. I mean, basically we go to the airport and go.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, because we had these little credit cards, we just kind of zipped them across and we took these little tickets with us and we'd just write in whatever our destination was. Yeah, this is like old school, like no digital anything today. We don't go on the internet and book our tickets or anything. You would pull out a little credit card, you put it in this little credit card swiper. We'd take out a paper ticket that had like carbon on it or whatever and we'd swipe the ticket. So we had like multi-layers of tickets so we can make our connections. Yeah, Total old school.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, no phones. So, anyway, we head to the airport, we jump on the first flight going down to Houston. So he tells me at least that. I mean we're going down to Houston. So I'm like cool, we're going south.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we're going to head somewhere, like you know to the. You know Mexico, that type of destination.

Speaker 2:

You know South America, somewhere where it's cheap, exactly the crystal clear blue water we were talking about. You got it. So, anyway, we get down to Houston, get up there, we grab something to eat, we start kind of walking through the terminal, and we knew that we were down on the right-hand side. So we start walking and I'm like you're still not going to tell me, are you no? So we come up to the first gate and I look at it and I see Cancun. Nope, and that's not where we're going. So I see the next one. I was like Belize.

Speaker 1:

No.

Speaker 2:

And that's not where we're going. So I'm looking at it and I see Cabo. I'm like, yeah, cabo, that's it. No, no, not Cabo. And then the last one I seen was Puerto Vallarta and I was like, okay, cool, this is great man, we're going to Puerto Vallarta, no. And then I looked at him. I was like Sean, the only other one that's left down here in the corner is San Pedro Sula, tegucigalpa.

Speaker 1:

Mm-hmm.

Speaker 2:

He had this big smile on his face and I looked at him and I was like, oh hell, no.

Speaker 1:

What is wrong with you? I'm thinking tropical destinations very inexpensive. I've heard all this good stories about this place called Roatan. Roatan, the Bay Islands of Honduras, the beach, the beach, but again it's San Pedro Sula to Goose Agapa, sean, yeah, back then we didn't have direct flights to Roatan. Today we have those direct flights, so we wouldn't have to do this adventure we're getting ready to tell you about, but we had to fly through to Goose Agapa first and then San Pedro Sula.

Speaker 2:

And we were going to the beach. We were headed to the beach. That's the plan. Okay, so I'm looking around in the boarding area and I told Sean do you see anything that looks different in the boarding area, sean?

Speaker 1:

It looked very normal to me. Other than who, yeah, in this little bright spot that was in the crowd of people.

Speaker 2:

That would be the white guy, that's me.

Speaker 1:

G stood out just a little bit in that customer cluster.

Speaker 2:

Stood out. He's mildly saying something. I looked like a target. So anyway, we're sitting there and we're talking, and we get on the airplane and we sit down on the plane. I'm sitting there looking at him in disbelief Like I can't even believe I'm sitting on this plane.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you know, it was a a venture Like we're going here blind, there's no reservations. No, no, no, no, you know plans. I just thought, hey, let's go to a cheap beach.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, okay. So then the flight attendant comes up to us, right, sean? Yep, you remember what she said. I think she wanted to take a picture of us. No, sean, she said what are you two doing here?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, she did say what are you two doing? Because she knew that the destination we're going to probably wasn't the safest.

Speaker 2:

Maybe it wasn't safe. Okay, we're going to get to that in a minute. So she says to us you know, do you even know where you're going?

Speaker 1:

And Sean says, yeah, we're going to the beach, yeah, we're going to the beach Because I still didn't want to tell G where we're going.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, remember that.

Speaker 1:

So she turns around and she says says hey, you guys got a camera, don't you?

Speaker 2:

so I always have my camera, doesn't matter when we travel. I had my camera, yeah, and and she said let me take. Let me take a picture of you two and we did it.

Speaker 1:

And then what'd she say? She said something like um yeah, I just wanted you both to uh, uh, remember what you guys looked like when you guys don't come back.

Speaker 2:

No, she said it was a good picture for the milk carton when you don't come back.

Speaker 1:

That's right, it was for the milk carton.

Speaker 2:

So, anyway, I'm still looking at him and I'm thinking I'm a dead man right now. Yeah, so we're going on the plane. So I want to give you a little bit of insight about these two places that we're going before we go to the beach.

Speaker 1:

Now, mind you, we're just passing through. Okay, any of these locations?

Speaker 2:

So Sean, first Tegucigalpa. Tell them a little bit about Tegucigalpa's airport.

Speaker 1:

Well, tegucigalpa's airport is one of the most dangerous airports that you could fly into, because it's surrounded by mountains. One side's a mountain, the other side's a ledge. It's a cliff, sean. No, it's really just a ledge.

Speaker 2:

No, it's a cliff. That's where planes have went off. That's why it's the most deadliest airport in the world.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's a very steep, very small runway and all planes can't go in there. Wide-body planes can't fly in there.

Speaker 2:

Pilots have to have special training to land there.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, approximately about a week extra training.

Speaker 2:

They have to go to get this certified and then they have to go down and do it with somebody that's done it before and yeah, they often overshoot the runway and they go on to San Pedro Sula because the winds are too bad and that little drop off at the other end, right yeah, the cliff.

Speaker 1:

Drop off.

Speaker 2:

So a little bit about Tegucigalpa's airport, right. So now let's talk about San Pedro Sula. San Pedro Sula let's talk about that one Known as the murder capital of the world, exercised high degree of caution due to the threat of violent crime, gang violence, corruption, drugs, violent crimes such as murder.

Speaker 1:

At that time, when we were doing this, it was the murder account.

Speaker 2:

Oh no, here's the best part what to do if you get robbed.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, what do we do? But we're going to the beach. Yeah, we're going to the beach because we're just passing through, passing through.

Speaker 2:

So we go ahead and we're flying in. The pilot makes an announcement and says we're cleared to land in Tegucigalpa. I look outside the window, I turn around to him I say good Lord, it is a basketball court, sean.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's a very small, small runway.

Speaker 2:

It is a basketball court in between a bunch of huts.

Speaker 1:

No, yeah, the airport's pretty much kind of a hut. A hut surrounded by these very steep mountains.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, well, we come down the mountainside and we're looking at this and I'm like, are you kidding me? He's over there taking pictures of these people hanging their laundry out in the back of their, their, their, their hut area. And we're on final approach.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you got to get the picture here. We're on like this the glide slope of the plane is coming down to the runway and it's literally at the exact. They had to cut away the mountain for the glide slope of the plane and you're. The tips of the wings are just over these homes.

Speaker 2:

The most deadliest airport in the world.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, just think about those people that live right there. That's crazy.

Speaker 2:

Okay, these people just give you an idea, the people that live in Tegucigalpa. They're known to pray before the pilots in final because of all the accidents that have happened at that airport.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, this isn't our first choice of like going to Tegucigalpa, but we were just passing through and we landed, and we landed and we stopped.

Speaker 2:

Well, we slammed on the brakes Safely Because of the drop off. Yeah, oh yeah, the cliff. So we get into the airport and we thought, well, we'll just get off of there. And did they tell us that that would be a good idea?

Speaker 1:

No.

Speaker 2:

No, because they said this is not safe to stay on the plane.

Speaker 1:

No, we needed to just pass through so again we go to take off.

Speaker 2:

We're at the end of the runway and we're sitting there. Was it a normal takeoff? Oh, no, no. The pilots sat there and they revved the engines up and they held on to the brakes and basically popped the brakes like we were Top Gun.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it was like an aircraft takeoff for a commercial airliner.

Speaker 2:

No, it was like Top Gun on an aircraft carrier, and you're not supposed to do that in a commercial plane, right? So anyway, we take off, and was the climb out normal?

Speaker 1:

Oh, no, there's hills everywhere.

Speaker 2:

No, it was a mountain, Sean. We were going straight up.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I guess you can call it a mountain.

Speaker 2:

So, anyway, we take off, we make it out of Tegucigalpa, head to San Pedro Sula, the place that we're just going to touch down, and then we're going to leave. So we get into San Pedro Sula, we land at the airport, we pull up to the gate. I'm thinking, yeah, we made it finally. So we're all we have to do now is get to this puddle jumper, go across to the Island and I'm finally at the beach. The water, the crystal clear blue water.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we were pretty excited by that because, uh, you know, after the Tegucigalpa experience, uh, we were very ready to hit the beach and relax and get some beer experience.

Speaker 2:

Uh, we were very ready to hit the beach and relax, yeah, yeah, and get some beer, absolutely so. Then we got off the airplane and, uh, sean, you went over and talked to the gate agent about where we had to go catch this connecting flight, right yeah, so I get to the gate agent and you know, the only people talking english were our gate agents there. We're not that, we're not fluent we don't speak spanish at all, sean, well, you know cerveza beignos.

Speaker 1:

those are the things that we're not fluent. We don't speak Spanish at all, sean. Well, you know, cerveza Beños, those are the things that we do know how to you know those important words? None, yeah, there was none. So we talked to the agent. Tell the agent hey, you know, we're trying to get to the Bay Islands and get over to Roton. How do we get there on this puddle jumpers, you know, you know.

Speaker 2:

I'm all excited at this point because I'm like I just want to get out of here.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, I was very excited myself too. And she looks at us and says not today. And I'm like what? Not today? What's?

Speaker 2:

going on. Can anyone feel my stare at this point?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, at this time there's a little bit of panic happening on G's face and I said what's happening? So she says well, you know, it's one of our major holidays and so all the Honduras go over to the Roton for the holidays, so all our flights are booked and there's no seats on their flights today.

Speaker 2:

Yeah I was looking at him thinking, yeah, there's no beach, so I'm, I'm going. Okay, we're not going to the beach, we're not going to row a time. We got to get back on this plane and get back to houston and I.

Speaker 1:

you know what? Hey, we're here, let's figure it out. Let's know, the plane left, sean. Yeah, we had to figure it out then.

Speaker 2:

The plane left. We were now stuck in the murder capital of the world, yeah.

Speaker 1:

So I talked to the agent once again and said, hey, you know what, you know, is there a place to stay here, some hotels and stuff? And she said, yeah, there's two. And she knew the manager of the hotel, so she made a call for us and got us a room at the hotel and so, yeah, that's what we decided to do.

Speaker 2:

What was the hotel's name?

Speaker 1:

Hotel Americana.

Speaker 2:

Americana. Was there any Americans there?

Speaker 1:

Only us.

Speaker 2:

Okay, we'll get back to that. So yeah, only us. So we had to leave the airport to get out to this Hotel Americana. Didn't we Tell them what happened outside the airport?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so then we got there and you know we had to exchange some money and stuff, so we had to get some Honduras money and so I started talking to the locals there, the cab drivers, and the cab drivers they exchanged the money for you. So I pulled out my calculator trying to get that done.

Speaker 2:

He's doing it on the black market.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, well, you do what you got to do when you're in a situation where you're stuck.

Speaker 2:

He's out there negotiating on the black market with cab drivers for US currency with his calculator, and we got it done and we got to the hotel.

Speaker 1:

But when we got to the hotel we were like, hey, you know what we need to get into a pool, chill out, relax, get some cervezas going.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, that was kind of exciting. I was all anxious. Now we're going to go to the pool because it was hot.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it was super hot. I mean, San Pedro Sulo is in the middle of a jungle.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so we asked the people.

Speaker 1:

We're. I mean yeah. So we asked the people were like, hey, where's the pool at? Where was the pool, sean? Well, there was no pool at hotel Americana.

Speaker 2:

Nope, the only pool that was available is at the other hotel on the other side of the city. So to get there, how? How did we get there?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we decided to walk through the city and, uh, head over and see what the pool looked like over there.

Speaker 2:

So when we walked outside and we're going down the street, how safe did you feel?

Speaker 1:

Well, you know you're very safe at that point because we're walking down the street. There's lots of people there to protect you. You know men standing around with Uzis and you know it was an okay experience right now.

Speaker 2:

In the United States, sean, nobody carries an Uzi as you walk down the street, so at what point did you feel safe?

Speaker 1:

Well, Hondurans just got over a little bit of a war recently. At that point they were staring at me, Sean. Yeah, there was a lot of stares at G.

Speaker 2:

So we get down to the other hotel. This even gets a little bit better.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we get to the hotel On the way, we stop at this little market, pick up some mangoes or papaya, whatever it was, and had some fruit, local fruit and got to the hotel and we walk into the pool area of the hotel and there is a large pool there with no water, not a drop, not a drop of water. And we are thinking, holy shit.

Speaker 2:

What are we going to do? I'm thinking a few other things. With you right now, but holy shit would have been covering it Right. With you right now, but holy shit would have been covering it Right. There was only one bright spot in that whole mess that you got us into.

Speaker 1:

That was one bright spot. We look across a pool and across a pool. It was like something at Fast Times at Richmond High there.

Speaker 2:

Richmond High.

Speaker 1:

I have to agree with you on that one, because that was I mean, we look across the pool to this beautiful Hispanic gal.

Speaker 2:

All ugliness, right, I mean this whole area, this thing was just. And there was this girl sitting over there.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, she's sitting over there, sunglasses, something out of like Hollywood, and we look and stare and we're like why is this gal sitting at this cement empty pond?

Speaker 2:

Does not fit.

Speaker 1:

the situation at all, does not fit in the situation, and so we manned her over across the pool to try to figure out who she is, because, wow, and she was really cool.

Speaker 2:

Right, she starts talking to us and she knew fluent. She was fluent in English.

Speaker 1:

Right, right, so we can immediately tell she's not from Honduras, or she would, or at least she knew English very well.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, she, she, uh, told us she she went back and forth from Los Angeles and she traveled a lot and her family all lived here and uh, and she and we were talking all the time and then she the cool thing about it was she invited us out to dinner with her family, didn't she?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, quickly. She invited us to dinner and said hey, what are you guys doing tonight? Come visit, Be our guest.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I thought, finally a bright spot in this whole mess that he's gotten me into. So we go back to the hotel, get all cleaned up, we get into a taxi cab, we head over to this restaurant and when we pulled in there were all these high-end cars on the outside of this restaurant and I looked at Sean and I was like this does not fit.

Speaker 1:

Look at all these high-end cars out here.

Speaker 1:

So for all you that have not been to Hondonduras, uh, especially san pedro sulo, there's nothing but like a lot of dirt roads there, so, but there's like these high-end cars sitting around on dirt roads and you're like this is just doesn't fit, like it's not a what you would think to see in honduras, especially how poor they are so we go into the restaurant and there is this girl and she's sitting and her family is all sitting up there and they had this long table and all these family members were sitting up there.

Speaker 2:

And they turn around. They were looking at us again me and Sean don't. We don't know anything, any Spanish at all. So she waves to us. We came up there and we become the main focus of the family at that point, yeah, we are like kings actually at that point, like they are taking care of us.

Speaker 1:

Everybody in the restaurant is like you know they're calling people over. You know get them a drink. You know take care of them.

Speaker 2:

Everybody's drinking.

Speaker 1:

Bottle service everywhere, I mean.

Speaker 2:

But nobody in the restaurant is actually looking at us at all. No, I mean, and this family was loud but nobody was looking at us at all. So all this family, they're all drinking. They were drinking real heavy, and we're in conversation and the one sister of that girl remember she was sitting next to her she starts saying something in Spanish and all of a sudden it's like somebody in the family took real offense to it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that was not a good situation right there. All of a sudden, this guy jumps up and just smacks the shit out of this girl.

Speaker 2:

You and not kidding, I mean grabs her by the hair, drags her out of that restaurant, and the whole time not one person in that restaurant was even looking at this family.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, gary and I were like you know, it was like do we jump in, do we not jump in? It's like it's just a weird, very weird uncomfortable situation.

Speaker 2:

Right and I looked at Sean. I was like you have a funny feeling about this.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

And he was like yeah, and I said you, sean, I was like you have funny feeling about this. Yeah, and he was like yeah, and I said you know, I'm going to ask her, ask her what their family does. And Sean was like I don't know if I do that, no, and I, and I said I'm gonna ask her anyway. So I turned around and I said hey, uh, if it's none of my business, I said tell me it's none of my business. But hey, what does your family do? And she said none of your business. I was like oh, that's great man. I was right.

Speaker 2:

Exactly and I turned around to him I said this is a cartel. Do you notice? I just realized all these high-end cars and everything.

Speaker 1:

So now our situation just got a lot worse. Yeah, for all of you out there that haven't figured it out already, I already was ahead of the game here. Gary was catching up. I already was ahead of the game here, gary was catching up. Our situational awareness was on high alert right now.

Speaker 2:

So, anyway, after this, they want us to go to this nightclub this whole time. Me and him are now on complete edge. We're just trying to get out of this whole situation.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we are Great. They were winding and dining us and it was awesome to have all those little bennies and stuff, but we just needed to exit.

Speaker 2:

We had to get an exit program, but they had us go to this club. They're all out there dancing and I told Sean, I'm like, look, we got to get out of here because if not me and you will probably be hanging from some bridge in Honduras in the morning time and I was like we got gotta get out of here, yeah, so so we, we made an excuse and, and thank god, we got out of that situation and we went back to, uh, to the hotel, and I'm just looking at him going.

Speaker 1:

Man, it's been quite the vacation so far, bud yeah, it was quite the vacation because, uh, we politely exited out that scene and, uh, uh, we were still stuck in san pedro solo yeah, but sean reached out.

Speaker 2:

Right again, sean reached out and he was like gee, I got us another place to go. Don't worry, man, I found a beach exactly.

Speaker 1:

So I went back, we went back to the hotel and I talked to the manager and the manager and I said, hey, listen, we want to get to the beach. Is there a beach close by? You know, where do? Where do you go to to the beach when, when somebody in san close by, where do you go to the beach? When somebody in San Pedro Sulu wants to do that, and he's like we go over to the Puerto Cortez, and he's like, let me talk to my son and I can maybe arrange transportation for you to get over there. And I'm great, great, great, great. So we talked to the son and he agrees for $20, that he's going to take us over to Puerto Cotes and drop us off. And then I was like you know how do we get back? And he goes no, I'll come back and everything and everything was for $20.

Speaker 2:

Well, that is because it was a van, that looked like it was cut out windows and that was our transportation.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

It wasn't a normal van Sean.

Speaker 1:

No, it was definitely something that you see in Central America, those little, tiny, little, small people vans, exactly so we get into this van Now we're traveling.

Speaker 2:

When I say through the countryside, it's jungle.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's dirt roads, jungle dirt roads. There's no street lights.

Speaker 2:

No, there's nothing. And then we come up on this big hill and there's, remember that old police station that was to the right. So there's this old police station, looks like come out of a bad movie, and we pass this police station. I'm looking at him, I'm searching for my passport, and he goes what are you getting your passport? I'm like, I'm getting my damn passport. I'm keeping it on me because if they think I'm going to prison in Honduras, my ass is going through that jungle and getting back on that plane. I'm going back to the States there, ain't no?

Speaker 1:

way in. When we passed this station it was like you're passing a checkpoint, like guards there, all that stuff. It was a little unnerving.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, a little bit, sean. We were going down the hill and all of a sudden we heard this big poof. Yeah, what was that sound?

Speaker 1:

That was a flat tire in the middle of the damn jungle.

Speaker 2:

Going downhill at this major slope, that guy pulls over.

Speaker 1:

He gets out and he says no problem, no problem, no problem, jumps out of the car, he opens up the trunk and pulls out the uh spare tire. He's uh looking at it and uh what? Was wrong with the spare, spare was a flat flat so it was flat, flat.

Speaker 2:

So now we're pointed downhill. This van is jacked up, there's two Americans in this, a radio police station up at the top of the hill, and the driver grabs this tire and he says I'll be right back, yep. And I look at him. I'm like where is he going? We're in the flipping jungle.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, the crazy part about this is that he starts rolling this tire and the tire is going down this hill and, you know, like any other, you know, just think of this. This tire is just going to get away from him, and it did, and so this tire goes rolling off the side of the cliff.

Speaker 2:

He's flailing his arms as he's running, because you know how you're running downhill.

Speaker 1:

He's just trying to catch up with himself. Yeah, and this guy jumps, the tire goes over the cliff and he jumps, like some monkey in the jungle, off the cliff into this jungle and disappears.

Speaker 2:

I looked at Sean and I was like great, he just killed himself.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

And so we're looking at him and we're like where is this guy at? Five minutes later, all of a sudden we see the tire fly up, lands on the road. He gives us a big wave, it's okay, yeah, no problem, no problem. So he goes around the corner. We're sitting there and I'm thinking, okay, we're parked now on the side of this thing, something's going to happen. So 40 minutes later this guy comes back. Had no idea how this guy got this tire fixed.

Speaker 1:

Wait, slow down. 40 minutes sitting in the jungle. Yeah, we were both very on edge at this point.

Speaker 2:

I told you I had my passport. I already knew my exit plan. I'm going through the jungle. I already knew I was like there. You know I'm leaving all my shit. I'm going through the jungle.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, but here comes the guy rolling back the tire, Brings the tire back up, he throws it back on and there we go, right back down the dirt road. So we're going down the dirt road, we get out to the resort and so we pull into the resort. We get out and we're all ready to check in. What did we notice about the resort, Sean?

Speaker 1:

There was no one at the resort.

Speaker 2:

No one at the resort, no one at all. Why?

Speaker 1:

Because everybody's at the Bay Islands.

Speaker 2:

So now we're now checking into a resort that there's no one there. There's no staff, there's no any cleaning staff, there's no cooking staff, we have no wait staff. There's no one there to do anything other than the guy that had the key and said hey, we got a room.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it was the friend of the owner of the whatever the Hotel Americana that had called ahead to accommodate us there. This resort, that was a ghost town.

Speaker 2:

So we were sitting there saying, okay, well, how are we going to eat? And this owner said well, there's a lady right down the street that has a restaurant that you talk to her.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we'll get to that. She said that there's a restaurant down the street. You talk to her and she will take care of you guys. So, first of all, from all this dirt and everything, we were out there. We were just like we're going to take a quick shower. So we had partitions in our room, so we're in there and we're taking showers. And I look up and I see something and I yell over and I'm like, hey, sean, did you know how these things are heating the water? And he goes what? And I said, look up and he's like, oh shit, we have a heating box with electrical wires running into it with hot water. We are basically in an electrocution chamber. I mean I'm sitting there and I'm like are you kidding me? I'm sitting there in this thing.

Speaker 1:

Then wires are running into this box. We're in the Puerto Cotes. In this little little resort there's these like little bungalow shack huts that are the rooms, and these rooms have these heating boxes that you heat up the water while we're showering. We're, we're both like we. What are we doing here?

Speaker 2:

yeah, exactly, it's crazy. So anyway, we get, we get dressed. And then we were like, okay, we're at least gonna to go down to this restaurant and we're going to talk to this woman and set up something to eat, because we were there for the next two days, we had to get something to eat, yeah, so we walked down the road here and we're looking for the restaurant. It wasn't a restaurant.

Speaker 1:

Sean yeah.

Speaker 2:

It was a panel truck cut out that they made into some kind of cooking thing and they had mosquito nets on top of a wooden pallet.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, they were like this is like a truck with an extension built onto it.

Speaker 2:

A little shack on the side of the road. They cut a panel out of it and it was a kitchen in this thing. So she, you know, she spoke a little bit, a little bit of English, but we're not enough. So we needed an interpreter. So we got one, didn't we? Yeah, there was a guy at the bar. He was the local drunk.

Speaker 1:

The local drunk. He was the local drunk. That was the only guy that can speak a little bit of broken English.

Speaker 2:

And you know something? At that point, I am good feeding this man beers, because he's the only thing that kept the communication going.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so we were being friendly with the local drunk.

Speaker 2:

And, yeah, we were giving him a bunch of cervezas and he was communicating with this lady that had this place. Well, she opened this place up for breakfast, lunch and dinner for me and Sean, because she was actually making more money for me and you than she makes all month.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, yeah, we sat there that first day and we sat paying for the drunk, paying for the owner's daughter to eat, paying for us to eat lunch and dinner. Yeah, we always had bananas fried bananas, the plantains, they're all there and we freaking sat there for the whole day. Our bill came to just under $20.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it was absolutely crazy. We're looking at each other thinking how many plates of food we had eaten and beers that we drank and we paid like $20 for this $20.

Speaker 1:

But here's the point this was supposed to be a cheap vacation and I knew that a friend of mine had told me that beers in Honduras were only like five cents.

Speaker 2:

So we were living like kings down there At the beach.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, at the beach.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, okay, so we sat there and we were eating and it was into the second, oh, into the first night. We looked at the plate of food and we were into like a third plate of this because we were chowing down on it.

Speaker 1:

It was good.

Speaker 2:

It was, and so I looked at the guy and I said, hey, can you ask her what this is? Because these bones are really small and you know this beef is good. But what is this?

Speaker 1:

He looks at us and says Woof.

Speaker 2:

I was like what did he just do? And he goes woof.

Speaker 1:

Both of us had our eyes as wide as possible and looked at each other. It was not a—.

Speaker 2:

He looked at us and he goes dog and dog. I was like, oh hell, no dog, I'm about ready to kill Sean because I'm a dog lover. And then this guy just busts out laughing.

Speaker 1:

He's slapping his hand on the counter laughing. He just he had totally got us.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he, he got us. He got us there for a second Cause. We thought we were eating dog and I was like you got to be kidding me, but the thing is, it could have been dog.

Speaker 2:

We still have no idea. I'm hoping that it wasn't. I'm just so hoping it wasn't. But you know, he, he, uh, he basically, uh, he got one over on us. So we went back to the hotel, uh, that night. Next morning we got up, went down to the beach and there's nobody down there. We're walking along the beach and we ran into this this whole group of people playing volleyball yeah, we finally were.

Speaker 1:

we were like, hey, some locals, we can kind of mingle with them, have some fun, play some volleyball stuff.

Speaker 2:

It was the Honduras National Volleyball Team. It wasn't local.

Speaker 1:

Honduras National Volleyball Team was out on the beach playing volleyball and we got to participate, which is awesome.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it was actually pretty fun. We had a good time. Now we are nowhere near what they were, but we did have a great time with them.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I know we were definitely amateurs playing with these gentlemen.

Speaker 2:

Exactly. So we go back to the hotel, take a little shower in the electrocution chamber and then we get ready and sean is like, oh, the guy's coming to pick us up. And I'm sitting there thinking, yeah, he ain't coming back to pick us up, he got his 20, he's out of here yeah sean goes. I didn't pay him yet. I was like, oh okay, well, he's probably gonna come back right so he pulls up in this van.

Speaker 2:

Now if y'all watch naked and afraid. When then people jump into that jeep and they're, they're, I'm heading out of there. I ain't never coming back. That was my ass in that old rickety van. I was jumping in that thing like it was naked and afraid I think both of us had that feeling.

Speaker 1:

It wasn't just G.

Speaker 2:

I'm like take us to the damn airport. I'm done with this beach vacation that he brought me on. I was like there, ain't no way in hell, ain't no way in hell. Sean would ever be a travel agent.

Speaker 1:

No, you know what. We did a good job. We had a good time. It was a safe vacation. There was definitely some eye-raising events happening, but you know.

Speaker 2:

I am never going on a vacation with you and I don't know where in the hell I'm going, because that one, you, you absolutely cured me on that 1000%. I'm telling you, folks like I said, me and him have done some crazy shit, but the reason why I do crazy shit with him is because this guy will. We'll talk about this later, but, sean, he don't run. I'm never afraid to go anywhere with him. Truthfully, me, me and him have been boys for a long time. I would do anything with him, me and him. We got each other's back. Oh yeah, a thousand percent, a thousand percent, but we did have a great time.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I mean, we like to do stupid shit, but at the same time we have our little adventures and all that stuff. But since that vacation we haven't done anything as crazy as that, but there's still crazy stuff happening.

Speaker 2:

Oh my God. Yeah, I mean, it was that. That is probably one of the craziest. Well, actually it was the last time I ever went anywhere with you without not knowing where I was going, because I still thought today I was going to die on on on that vacation of yours.

Speaker 1:

It was all right, but we're here. We're here to do a podcast, so everything is fine.

Speaker 2:

Do not trust this man to be your travel agent. There ain't no way. It's a good dang thing that he is a flight agent.

Speaker 1:

My travel agent skills have improved over the years. Remember, this is in the beginning of our career and we've been around for 30 years. Let me tell you it is much improved. I'm not staying in Honduras anymore. It's more like the Ritz.

Speaker 2:

Oh my God, that was a fun time. Hey, listen, let's talk about our destination.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, the destination this week is Munich, germany.

Speaker 2:

Munich. Why Munich? Why did we pick Munich? Well, the destination this week is Munich, germany, munich. Why Munich? Why did we pick Munich? Well, it's Oktoberfest.

Speaker 1:

Oktoberfest. And what is that Oktoberfest, man? It's a celebration of beer, lots of beer.

Speaker 2:

Brats.

Speaker 1:

Beer, brats, food. It was just a amazing uh festival. If you ever want to participate in anything in Germany, oktoberfest is the thing to do. I mean, this is happening right now between September 21st and October 6th. Um, it's in their main uh. The site's called uh, uh, uh, I'm there in the Weiss Uh. I, I totally messed up the name, but it's like 4,500,000 square feet of land that they dedicate to this huge, I mean massive, massive party. I mean to see what happens over there with the frauleins carrying all the beer. They got these like six freaking steins in each hand. I mean wow.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we always see a bunch of our crews over in Munich enjoying Oktoberfest. They love it actually. They actually love Oktoberfest. Sean, what was one of the things that they told us to do?

Speaker 1:

Well, you need to go to the public square there. Yep, they told us to do. Well, we need to go to the public square there. Yep, that uh munich's, uh mirenplatz is the uh very large public square there you did a good job on that one.

Speaker 1:

Well, you know we try pronunciation was pretty good and all the germans out there that are talking about. He's like he, that was shit yeah, he screwed it up but anyways, it's public square there. It has a very old clock in the square, definitely a place that you need to get to Markets, all kinds of stuff in the square there. Beautiful place. Other things that you need to do there in Munich is I'm a huge fan of BMW, bmw Museum's there. It's a must-see. It's a must-see experience.

Speaker 2:

Oh, sean's BMW, I'm a Honda guy.

Speaker 1:

You know you got to do what you got to do. Remember, things have changed since Honduras. Remember, ladies and gentlemen, I used to be a travel agent that just kind of like went off of $200.

Speaker 2:

I'm not that guy anymore. Yeah, so he's a BMW museum guy now Other things to do is Olympic Park.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, big shout out for that one yeah, the olympic park is, uh, this is kind of interesting. I kind of found out some information about this, uh that, uh, people probably don't remember though, but the 1972 olympics happened there, and this is kind of going on hand in hand with today's events is happening right now, um, it's a thing they called Black September, and eight Palestine terrorists attacked a group there in Olympic Village, and it was the Israeli team. So definitely something that's happened in past history that's definitely parallel with events of today. But on to good, better subjects, is the food?

Speaker 2:

The food Now, right off the bat. A lot of people have said this the potting shed. They said it's a little hip hangout for a lot of locals go there. It's great for dining and drinking. It's definitely a must-go and see. They like it a lot. It has live music on thursday nights. Uh, it's, it's easily to get to, uh and and a lot of, a lot of a lot of uh people said they, they liked it a lot yeah, great live music, all that good stuff.

Speaker 1:

The other thing another place to go, excuse me, is the worst house. It's not the worst house, it's really good. Uh, the worst house in munich is a. They specialize in bavarian specialties. They um traditional foods, you know brats and schnitzels, all that good stuff. That's a. It's an amazing place to go get some good popular dumplings. They have at the house there. The worst house.

Speaker 2:

So, sean, we had a great time on a trip. Look forward to seeing the pictures from Munich. Really look forward to seeing those pictures, because those are a lot of fun. Those big Stein pictures with the big beers and the outfits, those are a lot of fun.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I mean anybody out there has been over to Oktoberfest, please send pictures. We'd love to see you your dress attire. People like to dress up for the whole thing. Traditional German attire.

Speaker 2:

Now, me and you being old. That would be one thing that I would like to do with me and you being old now, because that'd be fun.

Speaker 1:

Sure.

Speaker 2:

The Brats and beers, oh yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

A thousand percent. Yeah, not as dangerous, Not the beach. All right, folks. So again we we had a great time. Thanks everyone for listening in and, as always, we end with a quote, and this is a simple golden rule Treat others the way you want to be treated. Really simple folks, Amen.
