Talk to us! Leave us a message, or ask a question?

This episode starts with the question every flight attendant answers before the aircraft door even closes: what do you notice first when passengers board? Shawn tries to keep it professional, G immediately goes to smell, and suddenly we are talking about clean passengers, airport outfits, sandals on planes, pajama travel, and the mystery of why some people show up to the airport looking like they lost a fight with their suitcase.

From there, things get even stranger with a passenger wearing a tail, a full conversation about “furries,” and the kind of onboard interaction that makes flight attendants question every decision that led them to that aisle. If you have ever worked a flight where the passenger behavior was already confusing before the beverage service started, this one will feel painfully familiar.

Then we get into real aviation disruption. Shawn and G talk about FAA staffing issues, East Coast airspace messes, American Airlines IT problems, and how one system failure can ripple through an entire airline operation for days. It is the behind-the-scenes airline reality passengers rarely see, but crews and commuters feel immediately.

The episode also dives into hot hotel rooms, European key-card power systems, passenger dress codes that no longer exist, hydration masks, chin-strap masks, cultural differences onboard, group travel behavior, and the one phrase that makes flight attendants instantly lose patience: “I know.”

Shawn also shares a lost iPad story from a seat that turns into a destroyed iPad recovery, G gets his turn with travel karma after making fun of Shawn’s airport chaos, and Florida weather creates the kind of reroute, sit time, and pairing modification that makes a normal duty day turn into a 15-hour test of patience.

Then it is time to go around the globe with an ATC and helicopter pilot argument, a bear stuck on a pole, airline employees caught fighting on video, a raccoon falling through a ceiling, and a cliff-jump fail that hurts just to watch.

If you like unfiltered flight attendant stories, airline chaos, airport behavior, crew-life humor, aviation news, and the kind of conversations that go from FAA delays to raccoons in the ceiling without warning, this episode is for you.

First Impressions In The Cabin

Shawn

All right, the FAA was understaffed this week. American Airlines IT issues. Oh yeah. Huge, huge. We're gonna get to that later on. Yeah. But this week I had a lot of fun. I was asking flight attendants, what is the one thing when passengers get on board the plane? What do you look at? Um first thing when you see somebody. I'm smelling them. Wait a minute. I said see somebody. I didn't say smell. You can't see, look, eyes.

G

I I I see if they look oh here we go. Do they smell clean? They do they smell clean? Yeah, is it is it are they pepe lepiw? Coming on board, my brother. So you don't look at like smile? Yeah, I mean interactions, all that stuff, you know. We're no no normal stuff that we're always like checking out. We're always looking for like, you know, are they personable? Are they talking to us? Are they they have their stupid headphones on ignoring us?

Shawn

Do they scanning scanning their clothes? Right. I think the biggest one I I have is is is looking at their clothes, seeing what they're wearing. But that goes along with pepale piu. Yeah. But they're most most of the time when you're when you're looking at them, you ever wonder electricity not turn on?

G

Or do they have water? Hmm. Oh, again, stinky. Right? Dude, I'm all about the stinky. I mean, that is the worst. Have you been in like like every time on a plane, if you get sat by somebody that's like stinky, like B.O. Skunk. Dude.

Shawn

You know, I hey Alexa, skunk is the worst for me.

G

I mean, it's it's kind of BO is horrible. It's kind of like G coming back from the gym. It's not funny.

Shawn

Not funny. So you had a lot of fun with the forehead thing too today.

G

And and and now now you're now you're like uh G's fun. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, body order is like one of my number one one 100,000 percent. If you come on stinky, like I'm like, I'm not looking at you the same way.

Shawn

No, you see little kids come on. Right. Little kids come on, they're you ever notice like they dress their kids cute. Yeah. Kids come on cute, but they could come on stinky too. Yeah, but dad, dads come on like they got like loafers on, some kind of shorts on, right, some messed up shirt. Dude. They have the variety pack.

G

First of all, men shouldn't be on in on planes with sandals either, open toe shoes, any of that shit.

Shawn

Okay. I'm walking, I'm I'm looking at all of it. Yeah. Well, you you know that the wife, the wife comes on, she's put together. Right. Guy comes on and looks like the pack mule.

unknown

Yeah.

Shawn

He's got money.

G

She's no, she's got his money. No, he's got money to have her have her his money. Very true, very true.

Shawn

So another thing, brush their hair.

G

Oh yeah. Dude. I don't get it. I don't any type of person comes on disheveled like that, like their messed up hair and all that stuff. I'm like, and the first thing I look at them, like I'm like conscious, subconsciously, like you're going back to because you how you look how you look says if you're stinky or not.

Shawn

Like, what's the craziest, what's the craziest person that got on the aircraft for you, looks-wise? Um craziest time I met G? No, you did not.

G

You did not.

Shawn

Hell no. Okay, I'm not.

G

Crazy as luck I'm like I'm like, he's a cocky summer bitch. I don't know this guy. You see, he has too much clone on it.

Shawn

You see why I said you're an asshole when we first met. No, the first, the first, I mean, the one thing, the one thing that I seen about this person, he walks on, he had a tail. A tail? Yeah, he had a tail.

G

Oh, come on.

Shawn

Coming out of his backside. No, seriously, he had a tail. Yeah. I'm like, you realize you got something sticking out of your backside. And he's like, Yeah, it's a tail. And I'm like, why? And he goes, I identify. I'm like, as what? And he goes, a fox.

G

I identify.

Shawn

That's not even an answer.

G

I identify. That's what he said, though. I know, but they like that's the stupidest answer in the world.

Shawn

Stupid was having a tail sticking out of his backside.

G

I identify.

Shawn

Yeah. Identify. I asked him how he got on the plane.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

And he goes, What do you mean? I said, Well, you said you're a fox.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

We don't allow foxes on the plane. Exactly. And he just kind of like walked by me. So then we're doing the service. No, we're doing the service, and the girl, he go, he gets to his row and he asked the girl for uh a Diet Coke. I'm like, we can't have a Diet Coke. And she goes, Why? And that's like he's a fox.

G

Yeah, foxes don't drink Diet Coke.

Shawn

A little water.

G

Yeah. A little lapping. First of all, we can't have foxes pissing on a plane. No, you can't have them on the plane.

Shawn

Do you ever do one of those? I mean, we've we've done like Comic-Con, right? You've done Comic-Con. Yeah.

G

You go into these layovers. But when they're all coming on and they're like a group of people, like all like these, all these freaks in one place, then yeah, okay. Those are fun though. Yeah, those are fun.

Shawn

They're fun because you're looking at all these kind of strange people in one. Because you don't get it all the time.

G

No.

Shawn

I mean, even when they come on, we talk about you have ones that have like funky shirts on.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

Inappropriate shirts, which usually they they draw a little bit of it. I usually take pictures of those guys too. I know.

G

I'm like, hey, can I take a picture of your shirt?

unknown

Yeah.

Shawn

And even if they don't know, they're getting pictures taken too. Right? Sometimes. I know. I mean, I had the one that they came on, she would like uh Wednesday Adams. Oh yeah. Right? I think we were on the same side. I know. Yeah, yeah. Because I'm like, I remember that girl. She had a hand and she was walking around with thing. Oh, yeah. No, no, no. And it was it was sitting on the dragon.

G

That was you that had it. I had a Wednesday Adams that she didn't have a thing. She didn't have a thing? No. She was dressed up exactly like Wednesday Adam, the whole hair, the makeup, everything, but she didn't have a thing with her. Yeah.

Shawn

Didn't one of those. Didn't one of those where they they dress up as like um animals. What is that? Fur. A fur a furry. Is it furrier? I don't know. Fur? Not furrier. I don't know. What is it? Well, I don't, I have no idea. What is it? A furkin. I don't know. A furkin? Well, we we took a bunch of them to whatever it is. We took them to uh a destination at the hotel. We stayed at their hotel. Yeah.

G

I walked in. They used to have a video game that was that type of thing. You like you would create a fur something, some type of furry animal of some sort, and that would be like you identify as this type of thing.

Shawn

But you walk into the hotel, they're all dressed like that.

G

Yeah, that's freaky, man.

Shawn

You get an elevator, I got in the elevator, I was going up, up. I was the only person. You're standing in there and you're the normal person and the no, they had they had the you know the heads. Right. They had full heads dressed up, and they they they were all animals. I was the only person. That's when you take out your phone and start videotaping.

G

Some freaky boys.

Shawn

We had

The FAA Staffing Mess Hits Hard

Shawn

some interesting people. But anyway, let's get to the FAA understaffing on the East Coast because later on, when I start talking about what I did this week, it's gonna definitely affect it, but it made the East Coast a mess.

G

Yeah. Here's the crazy thing. I missed it. Yeah, I know. You well, you missed No, I was at work, but I missed it. Because you flew out, yeah. So we flew out and we were out when the whole shit hit the fan, and like everybody was like, what the hell's happening back in the States? Like, there's all this stuff, the East Coast going berserk. We're getting messages, everything's popping up on our computers, all this stuff. And then by the time we got back, what we what I encountered was, you know, the commute and the you know repercussions of all those canceled flights, yeah, airlines, and all that stuff. I could see that you know, it's still you know taking days to get this uh weeded out, but yeah, I wasn't a part of that whole thing.

Shawn

So the East Coast was an absolute mess, and I was a part of it, and we'll get to that in a little bit. The other

When Airline IT Takes Everything Down

Shawn

thing was uh American Airlines had an IT issue.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

And we talked about it a few times about what happens with uh an airline when it has an IT issue.

G

But they grounded the whole entire airline.

Shawn

That's what I'm saying. For like 48, I think it's like 48 or 50 minutes. That's crazy. But what is that what does that do? Wax out the whole system for the whole the whole day actually, how many days in a row?

G

Oh yeah. Because I mean the cascading effect to this, and that's what I'm saying. Like I came back three days later and I'm seeing the cascading effect from all this mess. Right. I knew there was a mess because of what I came back to. Yeah, because every flight went oversold, every flight, like you couldn't find a to non-rev, couldn't find a seat anywhere. There was nine people on my listed for jump seat coming back home yesterday. That was crazy. Yeah, and you know, like I knew everybody. I was number one. Yeah, you're lucky. Sucks to be you. You know, like I'm like, sorry. Yeah.

Shawn

But the IT, when it comes to when it comes to IT issues with an airline, I mean, it it's crazy the lasting effects days. I mean, like three and four days down the road. Okay,

Athens Layover Heat And Plane Spa Faces

Shawn

so this this week talking about yours, you went to Athens again. So what happened? What'd you do?

G

Athens was a Athens was um this time I didn't have any, like I didn't go to any islands or didn't, you know, I just kind of like did the normal layover type of thing. Got there, walked in my room, had a room that was like a thousand degrees. I was like stripping off. You know, I travel with my fan. Yeah, the fan that's on our website, the gear we use. I have this big old clip-on fan. Dude, everybody in the trip wants to buy that fan now because they're like it. I had it, I had it clipped in my bag. When I rolled a bag down the thing, it's clipped on it. Well, I was at the airport, I had it clipped on there. Like it was so hot. So was the AC not working, or the AC was working, but it's one of you know in Europe, they have those like key card things. Yeah, put the key card in, certain temperature. No, it that turns on the system, so then when you're out of the room, it's off type of thing. Oh, so it takes for a while to yeah, yeah, and then it wasn't like it was like blasting air. I had it up full blast to try to get cooled down. It took hours, but I took a shower, I'm sitting there butt-necked, fan on me, just trying to keep cool.

Shawn

Thought about climbing out the window and leaving instead of going out the door.

G

It was, but anyways, the the layover was the normal, and then got together with a great crew and uh actually ran into one of the gals in my crew was uh in the training department like back before 9-11 with me. Yeah, and then I had some pictures on my phone of her then and now it was wild, but uh yeah, beautiful gal, the whole nine yards. We had a great trip. The it was it was kind of like uneventful until we got back, and then the commute was a shit show, yeah, you know, because of the freaking cascading effect. Like I'm like, it's ridiculous. The other thing that happened on my trip was that I've been actually encountering over and over. I don't know if you're seeing this domestically, but internationally, do you see that like all these women getting on with like and putting on like spa treatments on them? Yeah, mask, yep, hydration masks, like they're all the under the eyes, like they look like these like creatures, like some type of alien or something, and they'll sit in their seats. When has it become like in public, I do my spa treatments?

Shawn

They have those little slits in their eyes, too. So you're actually looking at them through them, those little slits. Like the hydration.

G

When has this become acceptable?

Shawn

Like, I mean it used to be just the hair curlers, yeah. But now it's wear the hydration mask, those half moons shit underneath their eyes.

G

Yeah. I mean, yeah, avoid the wrinkles, whatever. Yeah, that's what it does thing for. But it's like it just kills me because, like, you know, in our career and our our time of being in the airline, like when we first started, people dressed up and they came to the airport and they like presented themselves, you know, took a damn shower. So I was talking about when we talk about the people are coming to the airline, and it's like, you know, we had the pajama problem going on or recently. Now it's gone full blown. We're like, it's all screw it. I don't care if we're in public or not. I'm I'm showing you exactly how I am in morning.

Shawn

How do you have a conversation when you're looking at one of those hydration masks?

G

Dude, it's hard. It's hard, it's hard to like keep an expression off your face. Right?

Shawn

Because they got the and I'm like it, it's like a pile of goo on their face. Yeah, I'm like, you stupid. Exactly. How are you drinking things?

G

Bro, you you stupid. Maybe a glass of water. And the crazy thing is at the end of the flight, they take the shit off, they still look the same. Should have kept it on. It didn't, I mean it so it made your face wet. I think the whole thing's just a big gimmick, right? It made your face wet. Like you're in like a year or two, they'll disappear and you're not gonna see any of it. But I don't know. Who knows?

Shawn

Maybe if we wore some of those half moons underneath our eyes, we'd get away. I think I need to come to work and put a mask on my face and just come to work with the mask on my face. That'd be funny. Could you imagine doing a service put that shit on there? We're hydrating.

G

Yeah, this is a long flag. We're gonna we're gonna be we're working a long time. We need to hydrate.

Shawn

We need we got a hydrate our face. I could see you coming out and put them with half moons underneath your eyes.

G

I'd come out and I'd have like the hydration mask. You ever seen those like little head scratcher things that go in there? I put one of those motherfuckers on top of me too. I get I get the like little neck wrap with the cooling thing with some fans going. I just go full blast on it and put fake curlers in your hair. Be like, uh, I'm sorry, but um, I'm trying to get you serviced, but I'm hydrating. Yeah, I'm hydrating at the moment.

Shawn

Unfreaking believable. People, come on. But there's fun though.

G

Yeah. I mean, okay, it's like the mask. Yeah. Remember? No, the mask. Remember, we're talking about COVID mask. Yeah. To me, right now, the mask is like an IQ indicator. Right? It is. I mean, like, you get those people that are like walking on board and they've got the chin straps on. Why? We what purpose is that?

Shawn

We have we have we have crew members that do that. We have crew members that walk around, they got it again.

G

IQ indicators.

Shawn

Okay, yeah. But it's mouth covering and your nose needs all the air.

G

Yeah. Hmm. It's what's the purpose? There's no point here.

Shawn

In the aisle. How about you're in the aisle, you're having a conversation with passengers, and the mask is underneath your chin.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

And then after you get done with the conversation, you put the mask back over.

G

They don't even do that sometimes. They keep it there. Forget they had the stupid mask on in the first place. It's a beard protector for some. Yeah. Right? Yeah, it's it's stupidness. I mean, but do you think it's an IQ indicator?

Shawn

When we were doing COVID and I was fine with King, she was she had her mask on, and I and I gave her another one. She goes, What is this for? And I cut the eyes out. But King was like all covered up. But she had a full cocoon. She had a full mask on, and those eyes were cut out. She wore a shield at one point too, didn't she?

G

Yeah, she had the like face shield and all that stuff, like wrapped around her head. She had the mask on. She had like the whole You sneeze and it just covers. Yeah, yeah. She had all all the all that stuff is just like I mean, man, we can get into the matter. Would you ever go back and wearing those things again? Hell no. No forget that. So here's the thing. If you're in the medical profession or you use them and you're using them to not like contaminate other things or get contaminated, and you're using them properly and covering all your orfices and stuff like that, that you're trying to protect yourself and let protect other people from you giving stuff. I totally get that. But when you're not doing it right whatsoever, yeah. Or have you seen we have a we have a cleaner that has a mask and she always has it on her chin and it's the same mask and it's like turning dirty. It's dirty, yeah. It's really dirty.

Shawn

Like well, I mean, think about that too. I mean what is the think about that too. Um if if you're you're contaminating it by scratching underneath it, there's so many, there's so many things.

G

Again, an IQ indicator. Exactly. Here it is. You're stupid. You're stupid. Yeah. Quit being stupid and telling everybody in the world you're stupid. No more mask. Yeah, please. Yeah. Unbelievable.

Group Travel Etiquette And The “I Know”

G

Anyways, the other thing that uh on my uh trip that was going on was um how do I say this? The cultural differences of groups that come on our plane is gonna be interesting, are very extreme at times and annoying, to put it politely.

Shawn

And we're talking about all cultures. I'm talking about because I'll agree with you. I mean, I I will absolutely agree with you.

G

It I don't care who you are, group of Americans, group of Europeans, group of um different races, different, you know, like when you get them in big groups, they can be very annoying if you're not like within that culture. I mean, it oh my gosh. I mean, sometimes like so impatient, or they're always in the fucking way. Like we're trying to do our service. That's what I encountered this last trip. I'm trying to do my service, and they choose to all of a sudden have a family reunion at that time. Right. You're like, hello, we're doing a service, sit down. We need sit down. Like it's it's or then you have the then you have the other another culture out there that's very passive, and you can't really get an answer out of them. No, yeah. Right? No, no, and so it's like it's these annoying we it got to the point on this last one where we had one person in this group that was like the master annoyer, and he happened to be a freaking flyer, and started mouthing off to the gate agent in the beginning, and the agent was like, I'm not gonna let this guy fly. Captain's like, Alright. Yeah, so then all of a sudden they resolved it and he came on. Then he came on and he became now our annoyance, and he was like, the every person on the crew, front, back, middle, doesn't matter. They all were pissed off at this guy, but they didn't fly it. Just because he was just that annoying person, you know?

Shawn

When you have flight attendants, we have a bunch of different cultures, yeah. And we all feel the same thing when that happens. Right. What's that? They're annoying. It doesn't matter what culture it is. It's funny. I mean, right, well, no, it is. It's funny when you say that. I mean, because you have races and cultures, we have all kinds in our job. Oh, yeah. We are the biggest variety pack that there is. Right. But when that culture comes on, that group comes on in concentration, in high concentrations, we all think the same thing. Right.

G

You be you're like, oh no. Yeah, who's gotta deal with it? Right. Bus. Yeah. Us. Yeah. Whether we like it or not. Yeah.

Shawn

Yeah. You know, we're the first ones to step up to deal with that.

G

And and you know, culturally, like, it's kind of like um, and we have the same thing here in the United States. Like, yeah, they'll come on yelling and screaming. Destination to destination. We know that there's different attitudes and in different cultures. See them in the terminal.

Shawn

They'll come in the terminal and and they're walking in as a group as 15 or 20, and they're screaming and yelling.

G

Yeah, screaming and yelling.

Shawn

And you know, you know that's gonna get on the airplane, and they think that they can do the same thing. Unbelievable. And then you gotta shut it down. Why? Because there's a hundred and thirty other people that pay for that flight. And you gotta show it.

G

We have rules. I know, but but that's I mean, that's the one that's one of the biggest things in the cultural differences that we have that annoy us is that they don't everybody we have one set of rules, it blankets everybody, it doesn't matter what pink, purple, polka dotted. You have to abide by the rules. Except for me. Yeah, except for me. And my group. And here's the here's the most annoying thing to me in any of these guys. When you approach them and you're telling them, you know, oh, you need to sit down, whatever. And what do they say to you? I know. And then they look at you. I know. I know when you say I know to me, I'm thinking in my head, and if you ever see me out there, I'm thinking, I need to fucking sucker punch you right now. It's like this big military. If you know, yeah, why are you doing it? Like this is this goes to like little grade school stuff. You're like, come on.

Shawn

They have no idea they're talking to a guy that grew up military, went to the military. There better be a damn good reason of right.

G

If especially when you give me a I know, yeah. If you know, then why are you doing it? Exactly. Now I got more reasons to start yelling at you. I know. Let's get the I knows off the plane. It's so ridiculous. But yeah, anyways, uh I didn't have anything like crazy stuff in that. Oh, you

The iPad Under The Seat Disaster

G

know I did have, you know, how like uh we're always talking about the flight attendants and their we make them announcements, you know. If you've lost your cell phone or if you've lost an electronic ad, contact a flight attendant, do not move your seat, blah, blah, blah, all that stuff, right? So this last flight, we get into Newark, and this dude's getting off the flight, and he's like, Oh no, I forgot my iPad. And he's like, Oh, I had dropped it in my seat. Can you help me get it? So we go over to his seat, and he's up in uh the first the front of the aircraft in first class, and so he's like, We we It down there. I can see it then. I'm like, oh, I see it right there. Boom. And I'm trying to grab it, trying to reach it. We can't reach it because where it's at, and all this stuff. So now we do like a mechanical release of the seat and slide the whole thing forward gently, not to like damage the thing, right? We pull it back. Dude, this iPad was in an L. It's not supposed to be an L. He looked, I go, here's your iPad. I said, I think you pushed it back when you land and it kind of crunched your iPad. He's like, um, I need a new one, anyways. I'm like, all right, you go, dude. Good attitude.

Shawn

Yeah.

G

No damage report. No. I mean, I had never seen it. It was just like literally take the iPad and just go, it was, oh man, it was nasty. It was gnarly. Anyhow. But yeah, so that's happened. That happens.

Shawn

What

Weather Wins Then Newark Karma

Shawn

about you? Oh my god, so much. Okay. We were 27 for uh departure this morning. All right? 27 for departure. Number 27. Oh. All right. The weather, the weather was going to shit. Yeah. We were down in Orlando. Right. And we were at the back of the pack.

G

Oh. That stinks.

Shawn

Oh no, no, no. It actually turned turned good because they they opened up the other runway. We took off. Have you ever had one of those those pilots takes off, finds the gap right through the weather? Safe. Yeah. Right? Nobody else is doing it, but finds that one gap through there, and all of a sudden, you're miraculously, you're 15 minutes early.

G

Yeah, boom. Yeah. All this drama turned to like no drama at all.

Shawn

Yeah, but then the whole state of Florida shut down after you took off. Sweet. For for the whole day. Yeah. You know who my pilot was? Who's that? Your wife. Sweet. I was fine with Carol, man. I was telling this guy, I was like, look, if anybody will find a safe path right through this, it's her. It's Carol. And she did, and next thing you know, we're 15 minutes early. Yeah, she's a little bit. The whole state of Florida, the whole state of Florida was completely shut down.

G

When she got home, she told me she was like, she's like, we took off out of there, and we just so happened to be like they changed, we went to the end of the runway, like trying to get things like we were gonna hold out, whatever. Yep. And then all of a sudden they switched to runways, and now we're number one. They're like, if you're ready, you can go. Yeah, I thought it was gonna be a commercial show. Then she was like, you guys had to leave out Orlando and go way over the Gulf of America, okay, to come back up to Cleveland and still get there early. No, we didn't do that. You didn't get early? No, we didn't go that way. No, that's what you did today. That's exactly what she told me.

Shawn

It didn't have the flight planned that way. I'm telling you what you did. Then we're still 15 minutes early. But now that was the good karma.

G

Right.

Shawn

Right? Let's talk about the bad karma because you know we always have fun with karma.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

So you were going to work last week, right after the podcast, and we were talking about um about airport appreciation time. Oh, yeah. How you don't have it, and I always have it, and it sucks.

G

Yeah. I had a little bit this last one, I had a little delay. So we had a little, I had a like we had to sit at the airport probably 45 minutes or so, something like that. Right.

Shawn

You had to get on the other plane, right?

G

We had to just wait till the other plane got the other plane came in late because of the shit show happened in the States, right? Yeah. It came in late, and so it landed, and then they had to clean it and all this up wide-body stuff. So we had to sit there waiting for all that. So that was the only airport appreciation I got out of the state.

Shawn

I know, but you had some.

G

Just a little bit.

Shawn

I know. Taller. Now here comes the bad karma. How's that? Again, I was flying, I was flying with your wife again, and we were we were going down to the city. You were giving me shit before I left. I was giving you shit, and then I walked on the plane and I told her, I said, you know, it's about time Mr. Smartass gets a little bit of airport appreciation time.

G

And the reason why, and I want to preface this too, because the reason why I was getting airport appreciation, because I was taking that first flight of the day and it had a mechanical. I understand that. Yeah, yeah. No, they don't. I know. So, anyways, so then so I had this sit time and I'm trying to figure out how I'm gonna get to work, and he's like, Oh, now you're getting some airport appreciation. Look at you. Yeah, now he's telling your story.

Shawn

He's the interjector. So we we take off, we go down to Orlando, and I'm like, we're just gonna turn and burn, right? Turn out, and Carol leaves, she's going to the other plane, we're switching planes. We get a pairing modification. You do, yeah. The the the flight attendants. Yeah. Where do you think we went? Newark. No shit. The one place the whole place, no, the one place that I do not go to in the summertime. We got drafted, and then we were sent to Newark. The Newark crew was sent to Cleveland. So we had to fly. Why did they do that? I don't know. I don't get that. I don't know. I'm not even gonna get into that whole thing. Yeah, but we had to fly up to Newark. We were supposed to go Newark and then deadhead back to Cleveland. Right. And then be home at, I don't know, it was like four o'clock, something like a little bit later than we were supposed to be. Did you get home? Mm-mm. No. No, we got into Newark and then the shit show started. Remember, we were talking about the FAA had shortage. Well, we didn't know that. So we have we have our our on-board computers that we look. Sure. So we're following, we're tracking like all these different planes and stuff, and I'm like, wait a minute. The crew diverted. Wait a minute. The plane diverted. Wait a minute. The flight attendants diverted. So you're you we're all looking at this, and it's it was horrible. So we're watching all these planes in Newark, just none of them getting in. Now the weather was a little bit bad, wasn't too bad. Couldn't figure out what was going on. It was a a shit show. So we sat there and I was thinking to myself, this is karma. This is karma. This was me making fun of you, and if karma was a shark, it would have been Jaws on my desk.

G

Because that was the same day. So what time did you do that? It was a 15-hour freaking duty day. That's not my question. I just asked you. That's the time. When did you get to Newark from Orlando? Like around what time?

Shawn

I think it was probably well, it was probably the same time, probably around three o'clock. It was about three o'clock?

G

Yeah. Because I was just taking off. I know. So I was just pushing back. My flight left at three. I think we left right around 3 30.

Shawn

There was a lot of thinking going on. I was sitting out in the terminal and I was thinking that I did this to myself because I was mean to you. You're taking off. The crew that replaced me is now going to be in Newark originally before I would have even taken off and gone to Cleveland. Right. Okay. Then no plane, no pilots, no nothing. So we have to wait for a pairing modification until you get to the 15-hour mark. Then you start the whole fun of the hotel. This is the only point the point I'm making is one, karma. Two, the glamour.

G

Yeah. This is this is the glamour of our job. Like, this is the part of the job that is like the worst for us. And people don't get that. Like they're they always think it's like, oh, I'm stranded as a passenger. I'm I'm I can't make my flights. They didn't have any flights for me, all this stuff. The same things happened to crew members. It sucked.

Shawn

The only thing that I had was a bag of popcorn. Because I had a day bag.

G

Well, I will tell you, like um about four hours after that, like when you got in, I was taking a nap.

Shawn

I said it was karma. I said it was karma. And I did learn my lesson next time. Next time, I will still make fun of your ass.

G

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You you were like, you need to empathize.

Shawn

Empathize is the word. Nope. All right, man.

ATC Drama And Viral Travel Chaos

Shawn

Let's go around the globe because I'm already tired of listening to you. All right, did you hear that? Did you hear that that um spat between that helicopter and that uh ATC? I love those. Dude, love those. Let's listen to it.

SPEAKER_00

You can compare the airport with traffic. Every good day.

G

Dude, that was the funniest comment. Like, they're they're having like a pissing match. Right? They were. Like you're you're thinking, like, I hope you learn your job. Yeah, I hope you learn your job. I hope I hope you know what you're doing too. Your mama. The guy earlier did a better job than you. I'm like, that is so funny that somebody like put that together on the uh on uh whatever.

Shawn

I absolutely I get a kick out of watching some of these videos between ATC and pilots.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

Well that one was good though.

G

Yeah. That was really good. It's a uh it it's all that sh shit is happening everywhere. Yeah, like there's always conflict somewhere, someplace, you know. How about the bearing?

Shawn

How about the bear on the telephone pole? Dude, can you imagine this? No. Look at this.

SPEAKER_01

Are you calling about a bear? Yes. Yeah. Yes. It's on the power pole.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's alive.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, yes. Just leave it.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And 'cause I already called the gaming fish and they said there's nothing that they could do. Uh they could go and shoot it. Like tranquilize it to get it down, but it's gonna end up, uh if they do that, then it's gonna fall and could hurt itself.

G

So they told me that Driving down the street and you see a damn bear on top of a telephone pole, like what would you do? I would stop and go, I I I I would be completely in disbelief. Like they're calling 911, I think it is, or something like that, who uh on the video that like like you're in disbelief, but at the same time, you know, human we think we want to like help help, right? Yeah, we want we're gonna like okay, it's a bear, definitely a bear in a very peculiar situation, but like you want to help that bear, but uh that bear is not gonna get the help. No, it's not gonna be. Yeah, because I didn't see any solution. Like instantaneously, when you look at the video, you're thinking, how are they gonna get that bear down?

Shawn

His his rear end's facing the wrong direction, first of all. Right.

G

He was thinking the same thing. He's looking there going, Man, I I I was I screwed up. I'm yeah, like I don't even know how he got to that. It's the it's wild. Yeah.

Shawn

The whole the whole But you felt bad because you you knew you knew the end result wasn't gonna be good.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

Because I mean electricity, bear, telephone pole.

G

Well, and the funny thing is that like, you know, them call in and they're like, Well, we're gonna send now game and you know, fish and game, whatever, and you know to do what?

Shawn

Yeah, tranquilize them, it falls off the damn telephone pole.

G

Yeah, somebody's having bear burgers.

Shawn

That's horrible. That's horrible. All right, what'd you think about the ramp rage?

G

Dude, look at this crazy shit. Was that the craziest damn cat back here?

Shawn

You wonder why you're damn. Could you imagine being down in baggage claim? Where in the hell's my bag?

G

I mean, they're pulling their hair, tugging. Can you imagine you're looking out your window and you're seeing this ending? It's like ramp MMA. Yeah. It was two girls, right? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. So two spots opened up.

unknown

Yeah.

G

Two new jobs are open up. Open up.

Shawn

They need the anyone need employment. Exactly. You just watch that video. The fastest way to be unemployed.

G

Exactly. Be on video, on in the airline, doing some stupid shit. Whooping each other's ass. Yeah, that's yeah. Both of them are gone. It's good video though. Yeah. I mean, like MMA fighting and the whole nine yards. I was like.

Shawn

I came across this one and I was dying. Raccoon falling out of the ceiling. Let's look at this.

G

That shit's crazy.

Shawn

Did you see those two jump by the way? They acted like, I mean, seriously, they acted like a terrorist group was jumping out of the street.

G

I watched that video over and over because like each raccoon does something different. And like one raccoon, he literally did like a high jump. Like he's like in the air four feet for someone to freaking jumps over. Did you see that? Yeah. It was like, I was like, wow. But the funniest part to me is the guy at the end of the video.

SPEAKER_02

There's a raccoon!

G

There's a raccoon.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's a raccoon.

G

The hell did you do that? And he goes running like he's running. It ain't a bunny. It's not a bunny. The wildest thing about raccoons, like you you have you encountered raccoons in the wild or any of this okay. Yeah, I mean, like, who hasn't, right? But 99% of the time, what's a raccoon want to do? They just want to get it right away from you, right? Yeah, they want to get it right. They're going, you know, as long as they're not cornered cornered or whatever, they're going the opposite direction of you. So they're not like, and that raccoon was definitely trying to get away.

Shawn

Imagine his surprise. Yeah walking through, next thing you know, bottom falls down. Well, whoa, whoa, whoa, what the fuck? I told you not to come in here.

G

A bunch of humans. That was all right.

Shawn

This last one before we get out of here. When your friend says, Go ahead, man, you can make it.

G

Yeah. That hurts.

Shawn

Go watch this video.

G

Dude, I watched that over and over too. Because I was like, when you hear it him hit, yeah, you're all you can do is like, oh, that had to hurt. At what point do you think at what point do you run it through your head? Like, his ass. Yeah. And luckily that one, whoever that friend jumps into water after him. I'm thinking, you know, as being an ex-lifeguard, I'm thinking, like, that dude's dead. Tailbone. Yeah. Shoved all the way. He's lucky he's not paralyzed. Broken, like freaking legs broken, whatever. Something like that. But he went, I mean, he hit his rear end. Yeah, yeah. It was, it was a it's a funny video, but at the same time, it's not funny. Yeah, right. Because it's like so scary.

Shawn

You're like it's stupid. Stupidest. Anybody thinks that they're gonna jump over rocks into the water? First of all, lava rocks. Okay, yeah. But first of all, even if you make the water, yeah, who's to say that it doesn't angle angle off and whatever.

G

And you jump into like two inches of water. I don't jump into any water that I don't know what's down there. Oh, hell no. Like, like I've been I've jumped off of cliffs before and jumped, done things like that, but not never like run like that guy did. Yeah. But like I've jumped in, but I've swam first. Like I've gone down. It's like what's in there? You know, how deep is this? Blah, blah, blah. You know, I'm seeing other people jump off. Okay, I can see there's it's a clear, you know, that you know, you kind of assess the situation first. You don't go do the drunken.

Shawn

I'm just picturing you looking over side going like this. Yeah, gee, I I think I can make it. This is me. Go ahead.

G

No, I would never say that.

Shawn

Know that. You you you admit with your knees, you go about the biggest. My jumping days are way over. You tumble down that side, roll down the flat area. It would be so bad. It would be so bad.

Quote Of The Week And Wrap

Shawn

All right, inspirational quote.

G

All right, so the inspirational quote this week is happiness is when you stop comparing yourself to other people. That's very true. Yeah. You can't be yourself. Yeah, be yourself. Yeah. You're always yourself. I'm 100% always myself. He's an ass.

Shawn
